Fritz Lang’s M

Posted by Jen on Thursday, 10 May, 2007

This is a great movie, starring Peter Lorre in his first major film role. It’s about a city that’s been invaded by a child killer (and it’s implied that he molests them before he kills them) and the police are doing raids to try and find him. The other criminals (such as thieves) don’t like the raids because THEY might get caught instead, so they also go on a search for the child killer.

Peter Lorre is wonderfully creepy as the child killer; he certainly doesn’t look the part. His monologue at the end is chilling. But why read about it when you can watch it?

Watch it on Google Video. 1 hr 49 mins long, German with English subtitles.

Additional: I read somewhere that after the movie was released, Peter Lorre was widely avoided in the streets because everyone thought he really WAS a child killer.

Also, he couldn’t whistle, so it’s Fritz Lang you hear whistling during some parts.
